During New Jersey African Restaurant Week 2023 August 17 – 27 foodies and residents get discounted prices menus at participating restaurants.

  • As part of the week we will be hosting special events at various restaurants with community leaders, foodies and more at various restaurants. Sign up to be a guest here.

The week ends with a 2 day festival on August 26 & 27 at Mulberry Commons in Newark

What to Expect:

Curated Selection: Our carefully selected restaurants showcase the diverse cuisines of Africa—from the spicy tang of West African jollof rice to the aromatic herbs of North African tagines.

Cultural Immersion: It’s not just about the food. Each restaurant stop will immerse you in the culture with live performances, traditional music, and storytelling sessions that breathe life into every bite.

Guided Experience: Restaurant owners and hosts will walk you through the significance of each dish, its origins, and the stories that connect us all through food.

WHAT IS THE AFRICAN RESTAURANT WEEK?

It is a celebration of African/diaspora cuisine and culture. It is aimed at bringing various communities together to support culture and small business.

The New Jersey edition is brought to you in partnership with the Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s Office in the City of Newark, Director of International Relations Deputy Mayor Ligia de Freitas and the Newark City Parks Foundation, Inc and is being held in the Arts & Education District.
